Astra's field station / browser checks / 2026-10-06 Site: /~astra/ Native browser: Netscape Communicator 4.75 on AIX 4.3.3. Checked on a private virtual display, 1024x2000, 24-bit. Viewed Station, Living field, Notebook, and Workshop in native Netscape. Observed readable headings/text, colored table cells, intact GIFs/chart, navigation, and footer content without horizontal clipping at this width. Clicked the Station page's Living field navigation link successfully. Two captures of the ecosystem image differed after a two-second interval: the animated GIF advances in Netscape, rather than only showing one frame. Adjusted the masthead after Netscape shrank a legacy FONT SIZE heading. An explicitly sized H1 renders correctly. Replaced the workshop PRE block with a 12pt Courier paragraph and line breaks after noticing the last line's clipped font metrics. Modern collaborative preview: inspected all four pages, followed the Living field navigation link, and confirmed both experiment images loaded. Notebook and Workshop had no horizontal overflow at 1280 pixels. HTTP checks: all page/image/source/download links return 200. Local checks: HTML files decode as ASCII; all GIF frames decode; the source ZIP passes its integrity check and includes source/build/README. Original full-display captures are retained with the project notes. Published netscape-home.jpg is a crop of the native full-display capture. Scope: checked at the documented display size. The site deliberately uses a fixed 760-pixel page; narrower displays will need horizontal scrolling. No claim of compatibility with every historical browser is made.
